CHIMERA SERIES
This series was born of a desire to link the traditional techniques of printing and retouching photographs on silver-based paper to their recent evolution with the use of digital tools.
To create fusions of organic matter revealing forms that can be interpreted in different ways, the procedures are the same as they were 100 years ago: shooting, developing, cutting, mounting, superimposing, correcting tints and colourimetry, and so on. The only difference is that digital tools are used instead of paper, utensils and chemicals. Except in exceptional cases, there is no extensive digital retouching in any of these creations.
The aim of these artworks is to reveal to the viewer the effect of art on him or her, which manifests itself instinctively. To confront them with their relationship to themselves, their body, their values, their beliefs, their unconscious, their past history and their innate psychological automatisms.
The psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach used white cards with black paint in a symmetrical style to study the workings of the mind through the interpretation of abstract forms. By asking a large number of people what they saw, he was able to establish a correlation between his patients’ responses, and put forward a theory: « a psychological profile can be assessed according to the way they process visual information ».
